The rumors have only become louder since she released Midnights, which is packed with love songs about Alwyn. Despite giving brief public views of their romance throughout their more than six-year relationship, the artist and the actor have taken great pains to keep it under wraps.

In a 2020 Rolling Stone interview, Swift said, “I believe that by getting to know [Alwyn] and being in the relationship I am in right now, I have taken choices that have made my life feel more authentic and less like a plot for tabloid commentary. The concept of privacy feels so bizarre to attempt to convey, but it’s just trying to find bits of normalcy, whether choosing where to live, who to hang out with, or when not to take a picture.”

Swift stated they got involved due to the severe public response she had due to her ongoing dispute with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in her 2020 Netflix documentary Miss Americana, in which Alwyn also made a brief appearance.

In any case, don’t expect to learn anything from him: In April 2022, the Conversations With Friends actor told WSJ Magazine, “If I had a pound for each time I believe I have been informed that I am engaged, I would have a large collection of pounds. In the Midnights track “Lavender Haze,” Swift sings, “I’m damned if I do give a damn what people say / The 1950s s**t they want from me / I just wanna stay in that lavender haze” and “All they keep asking me is if I’m gonna be your bride / The only kinda girl they see is a one night or a wife.”
