The offender in the 2019 shooting death of Tony Sanford was found guilty this week by a Richmond County jury. Kwadere Barno, 35, of Hephzibah, was found guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault, and malice murder in addition to three separate firearm possession counts. For the various crimes, Barno was sentenced to 50 years in jail and was given a life sentence without the chance of parole.
The shooting occurred on May 25, 2019, due to a traffic dispute. According to a press release from Augusta District Attorney Jared T. Williams, Sanford, 59, of Augusta, accidentally sideswiped Barno’s vehicle. Williams claims that “the enraged defendant got out and got into a verbal argument before firing into the victim’s car many times.”
