In the Madrid Open semifinals on Saturday, 15-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz beat world No. 1 Novak Djokovic 7-5, 7-6(5).
Even though Djokovic hasn’t won a title yet this season, he came back from a break to win the first set in a tiebreaker. The 34-year-serve old’s looked dangerous, as he won 21 points in a row in the first game.
This week, Alcaraz turns 19 years old. In the second set, he showed that he was tough. He saved a break point and kept his serve at 6-5, then broke Djokovic to force a third set.
In the final tiebreak, Alcaraz won his comeback and beat Djokovic. People cheered loudly in the Spanish capital.
Sunday’s final against Zverev will be their third time playing each other. Even though the first two were played on hard courts, Alcaraz has yet to beat the two-time Madrid champion.
