The thought that I would lose my family and that they would no longer exist as a result of the bad habits I had brought with me from the road was the thing that terrified me the most. My wife forced me out of my home, and I was living elsewhere on my own when I didn’t want to.

How Get James Hetfield Start His Career?

The British metal band Diamond Head, another significant influence on Hetfield, had a configuration that was comparable to Metallica’s early attempts with various vocal and guitar arrangements. Adding another guitarist, having John Roads play lead guitar, and inviting John Bush from Armored Saint (who later joined Anthrax) to sing for the band were a few of the ideas that were taken into consideration.

Hetfield (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Lars Ulrich (drums), Dave Mustaine (lead guitar), and Ron McGovney (bass), who was subsequently replaced by Cliff Burton, made up the band’s final lineup. Their early music was described as power metal by Hetfield. In a February 1984 issue of Kerrang, journalist Malcolm Dome popularised the phrase “thrash metal” to describe the Anthrax song “Metal Thrashing Mad.”

Rising difficulties between Mustaine and Hetfield resulted from his excessively hostile behaviour and drinking issues in the years 1982 and 1983. Additionally, Mustaine once spilled beer on McGovney’s bass, almost seriously damaging it.

Ten days after Hetfield and Ulrich formally sacked Mustaine from the band owing to his inconsistent apathy, the band hired lead guitarist Kirk Hammett from the band Exodus on April 1, 1983. Mustaine, who later founded the heavy metal band Megadeth, was returned home after taking a four-day bus ride from New York to Los Angeles.
