The purple dinosaur that everyone loves is set to make a comeback! According to a recent statement from Mattel, the Barney franchise will be relaunched internationally. Beginning in 2024, the business intends to reintroduce the legendary figure to young audiences through new television shows, movies, music, toys, and other media.
When Barney & Friends made their PBS debut in 1992, Barney was first introduced to families. Barney, a purple anthropomorphic dinosaur, and his friends were the stars of the show as they performed upbeat songs and learned life lessons.

The show teaches viewers skills like how to share, be kind, and have good manners, while the series’ songs have earworms like “I Love You, You Love Me,” which has stuck in the minds of its audience well into adulthood. Barney & Friends ran for 268 episodes, with the final one airing in November 2010.
The first product of this franchise relaunch by Mattel will be an animated series. The untitled animated series will follow Barney and his friends as they set out on “music-filled adventures centered on love, community, and encouragement.”
The preschool-aged audience for the series will be its target audience, and it will make its global premiere in 2024. For Mattel Television, the series will be executive produced by Fred Soulie and Christopher Keenan. At the same time, Colin Bohm and Pam Westman will do the same for Nelvana, a production of Corus Entertainment.
