Chris Chibnall wrote and made the crime drama TV show Broadchurch (Doctor Who). The show’s first episode came out on ITV on March 4, 2013. You can also watch it on Netflix.
The story is set in a made-up town in Dorset called Broadchurch, which is also the name of the show.
Both critics and viewers have liked Broadchurch, and so far, all three seasons have done well. More than 11 million people watched its third season, making it one of ITV’s most popular crime dramas.
Now, the question is whether or not there will be the fourth season of Broadchurch. Before we answer that question, let’s take a quick look at what the show is about.
Broadchurch Season 4 Cast
The main characters, DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller are played by David Tennant and Olivia Colman. David Tennant is a British actor who has become famous all over the world for playing a wide range of roles.
People recognize him as the actor who played the tenth Doctor on the BBC show Doctor Who. During the same time, he played Giacomo Casanova in a comedy-drama for the BBC called Casanova.
In the Netflix show Jessica Jones, he played the main bad guy, Kilgrave. Olivia Colman is best known for her small roles in TV shows like The Night Manager, Accused, and Fleabag. She has more than one acting award. So far, she has won four BAFTAs, two Golden Globes, and one Oscar.
Also in the show’s ensemble cast are Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Carolyn Pickles, Arthur Darvill, and Charlotte Beaumont. On TV, Jodie Whittaker plays Beth Latimer. Whittaker is best known for being the thirteenth Doctor on Doctor Who and the first woman to play that role.
She was in an episode of Black Mirror called “The Entire History of You” before she was on Doctor Who.
Andrew Buchan plays Beth’s husband, Mark Latimer. Buchan is known for playing John Mercer in the ITV drama series The Fixer from 2008 to 2009 and William Garrow in the BBC drama series Garrow’s Law from 2009 to 2011.
In the show, Carolyn Pickles plays Maggie Radcliffe. Pickles is a well-known stage actor in London’s West End, and Emmerdale fans know her as Shelley Williams (ITV).
Arthur Darvill, a British singer, and actor, plays Rev. Paul Coates. On the TV show Doctor Who, Darvill is known for playing Rory Williams, one of the Eleventh Doctor’s friends. On the TV show Legends of Tomorrow, he played Rip Hunter.
Charlotte Beaumont, a British actor, plays Chloe Latimer. Before she was in this show, she was known for playing Kenzie Calhoun in Waterloo Road.
Broadchurch Season 4 Plot
The murder of 11-year-old Danny Latimer is at the center of the first season of Broadchurch. Everyone in the small, close-knit village is a suspect. No one knows where Danny’s dad was on the night he was killed.
He ended up having an affair with the owner of a local bed and breakfast. DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller are in charge of the investigation. When DS Miller was put on DI Hardy’s case, their relationship at work got worse. At the end of the season, it turns out that her husband Joe killed the person.
In the second season, we find out that Joe did nothing wrong. The jury sets him free after two months of stressful drama in court. The suspected child killer’s happiness doesn’t last long. Ellie tells Danny that if he doesn’t leave, she will kill him. People are afraid he will die, so they kick him out of Broadchurch.
We also learn that the Sandbrook case is very interesting to Detective Inspector Alec Hardy. Ricky Gillespie killed Lisa by accident. When he saw her with Lee Ashworth, he hit her head on the floor. Claire Ripley, who works with him, tells Lee Ashworth to kill Young Pippa Gillespie, who sees the killing happen.
In the third season, they go after a local man who raped a girl. After eight times of confusion and wrong leads, this is the real criminal (Sebastian Armesto). And Leo Humphries’s stepson Michael (Deon Lee-Williams) from high school (Chris Mason). Leo is the main person who did wrong, and he eventually admits it in a haughty way.
At the end of the story, DI Miller is trying to get himself back together. Hardy tries to cheer him up by telling him that Leo is crazy and that other people shouldn’t judge them based on him.
Miller and Hardy found out who did it last season, which is a great plot point. The show also ends with a cliffhanger that shows Michael what Clive has been hiding.
Broadchurch Season 4 Release Date
On February 27, 2017, ITV showed the first episode of Season 3 of Broadchurch. It ended on April 17, 2017, after airing eight episodes.
ITV and Chris Chibnall have both confirmed that there will not be a season 4 of Broadchurch because it was always meant to be a three-season trilogy. A spinoff or a prequel with a different cast could continue the story of Broadchurch. We will have to wait until we hear something official about that.
Until then, season 4 of Broadchurch is over. On BBC Radio 4, Chris Chibnall said, “That’s it, and there will be no more after this one.” He also said, “The show has taken us all by surprise. It’s been a very interesting journey.”
