Our Flag Means Death Season 2: Release Date & Everything We Know So Far!

Fans want Our Flag Means Death Season 2, which they will get thanks to HBO Max. The pirate comedy series has built a fan base that wants more of David Jenkins and Taika Waititi’s strange style of piracy (no, not the kind of piracy that has caused Netflix to have problems with account sharing).

The HBO Max Original Our Flag Means Death is basically a situation that shows how dangerous it can be to want to be someone you’re not. And it’s loosely based on things that happened in real life.

In this case, Rhys Darby plays Stede Bonnet, a well-to-do gentleman in the 18th century who thinks he would be happier as a pirate. And he has a chance to do it because he met the famous Captain Blackbeard (Taika Waititi, in inspired casting).

The end of season 1 showed that things don’t always go your way when you change careers later in life.

Is Our Flag Means Death season 2 confirmed?

We now know for sure! On June 1, HBO Max said that there will be a second season of Our Flag Means Death.

This news seemed inevitable and about to happen. The Parrot Analytics research film, which measures popularity based on online interest and engagement, said that Our Flag Means Death was the most popular new show for the 100 days leading up to the release of its finale.

And in the last thirty days? It has had 23.2% more demand than the average TV show in the U.S., where only 2.7% of all shows have demand. It’s clear that HBO wanted to keep this show going.

Still, HBO has announced new seasons without much of a wait in recent years. For example, Euphoria’s third season was officially announced at the beginning of February, which was a few weeks before its last episode aired near the end of the month. But when you want it, Euphoria is in a league of its own.

For a show that is more similar, let’s talk about how HBO announced that season 2 of The Flight Attendant will start on December 18, 2020. This was the day after the last episode of the show.

So, where are we now? Even though we are sure that Our Flag Means Death will have a second season, we feel like HBO Max needs to confirm it.

Our Flag Means Death season 2 potential plot

People want Our Flag Means Death season 2 for more than just to see Stede and Blackbeard make out on the ocean. The show ended with a cliffhanger that makes it clear that there will be a second season.

After Chauncey yelled at Stede and said that he was to blame for everyone’s problems (including Blackbeard’s, who had just shaved his beard), Stede ran away as if he was done with piracy. Even life at home wasn’t a good fit, though.

Mary loves her life without Stede and doesn’t care at all that she’s a widow. She even tries to kill him while he’s sleeping but fails. They decide to break up, and Stede realizes that his true love is Blackbeard.

When Steve got back to his crew, it was too late. Well, Blackbeard’s time as the nicer “Ed” was too much for his crew to handle, so after some arguments, he threw Lucius overboard. And, like a mad lover, he told everyone to throw all of Stede’s things into the ocean. Izzy’s pinky toe was even cut off and made to eat. Yikes!

And at the end of it all? We find out that Blackbeard has taken the Revenge, put his own flag on it, and left. Then Steve finds his crew, who are all hungry, and realizes how much work needs to be done.

Our Flag Means Death season 2 cast

If Our Flag Means Death had a second season, there are some obvious things that would have to happen with the casting. Rhys Darby’s return as “Gentleman Pirate” Stede Bonnet and Taika Waititi’s as Edward “Ed” Teach, also known as “Blackbeard,” are the main things that people are excited about.

Nathan Foad is back as Lucius Spriggs, which is the only thing that is not clear. Lucius’s death is unknown. The last time anyone saw him, Blackbeard threw him off the ship. And without proof that they’re dead? Well, in TV land, he’s likely to come back. He also wrote about Stede’s adventures. Do we not need a good writer?

Also, there’s the matter of Stede’s family. His now-ex-wife Mary (Claudia O’Doherty) and daughter Alma (Eden Grace Redfield) may come back, but Stede will not be with them.

The rest of the likely-to-returns are:

  • Ewen Bremner as Nathaniel Buttons
  • Joel Fry as Frenchie, who Blackbeard has taken captive
  • Samson Kayo as Oluwande Boodhari
  • Con O’Neill as Israel “Izzy” Hands, who is helping Blackbeard
  • Vico Ortiz as Jim Jimenez, who Blackbeard has taken captive
  • Rory Kinnear as Captain Nigel Badminton (but not his dead brother
