It’s difficult to put your faith in others when you’re the world’s richest man. Having someone like Jared Birchall on Elon Musk’s side is a godsend. Birchall has been working with Tesla tycoon Elon Musk for the past six years. According to Musk, Birchall’s net worth is estimated at $264 billion.
Birchall is the managing director of Musk’s family office, Excession LLC, and Bloomberg says he makes between $1 million and $3 million a year. Musk started Excession in 2016 to manage his investments and money from Tesla, SpaceX, the Boring Co., and Neuralink. Excession is the company he set up to help him do this.
Birchall helped Elon Musk in his Twitter takeover
For Musk’s $44 billion buyouts of Twitter, Birchall is said to have been essential in arranging the finance. Besides Musk’s $12.5 billion loans from Tesla, another $7.1 billion is coming from investors such as Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Tala, Oracle founder Larry Ellison, venture capital company Sequoia Capital and cryptocurrency exchange Binance.

Birchall worked in finance before joining Musk
When Birchall joined forces with Musk, she had a job in finance and wealth management. He worked at Goldman Sachs for a year after graduating from Brigham Young University in 1999. During the 2000s, he left Goldman Sachs to work for Merrill Lynch as a private wealth manager. He had worked for Merrill Lynch for about 10 years before he was fired for “sending correspondence to a client without management approval,” Bloomberg says.
Birchall, 47, was a senior vice president at Morgan Stanley for six years when he was asked to help set up Musk’s family office, and he was already there. After the family office, Birchall is on the list of people who work for many of Musk’s businesses. A few years ago, he was listed as the director and CEO of Neuralink, even though he didn’t do any work at the company. Only the role of the family office is on Birchall’s LinkedIn page, and he doesn’t list any other jobs there, either.
Birchall handles most of Musk’s business and personal life
Birchall is said to be in charge of most of Musk’s business and personal life. Also, he helps him get bank loans and invest in companies, the New York Post says. He also arranges trips for the billionaire and hires nannies for his kids.
Birchall has also been hired by Musk to help him with his dirty work and clean up his messes. As directed by Elon Musk, Birchall hired a private investigator in 2018 for the purpose of uncovering information on an individual who criticized Musk for suggesting that a SpaceX submarine may be used to rescue a trapped soccer team in Thailand 2018.
Birchall moved his family to Texas in 2020
Birchall relocated with Musk as he shifted most of his business activities from California to Texas. A $2.25 million Austin mansion is now home to Birchall’s wife and five children, according to Bloomberg.
