Weight loss giant Jenny Craig is reportedly curtailing some of its weight-loss centers and warning about mass layoffs. According to various reports, the Carlsbad, California-based company will soon begin laying off staff as it searches for a buyer.
A spokesman for Jenny Craig could not be reached for comment by USA TODAY on Wednesday.
According to its website, the company operates over 500 weight-loss clinics in the United States and Canada and has “millions of successful Jenny members.”
“Like many other companies, we’re currently transitioning from a brick-and-mortar retail business to a customer-friendly, e-commerce-driven model. We will have more details to share in the coming weeks as our plans are solidified,” a spokesperson for Jenny Craig said in a statement to CNN.
Jenny Craig alerted employees to potential layoffs as it begins “winding down physical operations” and hunts for a buyer, according to NBC News.
The company, which was founded in 1983, did not say how many employees it plans to let go or say how many centers will shutter their doors.
