Martha Stewart, 81, has become Sports Illustrated’s oldest cover model, posing for the magazine’s annual swimsuit issue.

The TV personality and chef is one of four cover models for this year’s issue. It aims to honor influential women who “live in a world where they feel no limitations, internally or externally.” The other models were Megan Fox, Brooks Nader, and Kim Petras.

“When I found out I was going to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, I thought, ‘Oh, well, that’s pretty good,'” she says. “I’m going to be the oldest person on the cover of Sports Illustrated, I believe,” Stewart stated in an interview about the cover.

“And I don’t think about my age very often, but this is historic, so I better look really good.”

“My motto has always been: ‘When you’re through changing, you’re through,’ so I thought, why not be up for this lifetime opportunity?” Stewart sent a message on Instagram. “I hope this cover inspires you to challenge yourself to try new things, no matter what stage of life you are in.”

Stewart dubbed the “OG of influencers” by Sports Illustrated, rose to prominence in the 1980s after she began writing cookbooks and appearing on television following her success as a chef.

Stewart has since written 99 books, hosted numerous cooking shows, founded her lifestyle magazine, and started her clothes, cuisine, and home product lines.

“Never in her life has she let her circumstances dictate her outcome,” MJ Day, editor-in-chief of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, remarked of Stewart. “She’s evolved with the times, always one step ahead, it appears, to build a vast business empire.”

Petras is only the second trans woman to appear on the Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover, following model Leyna Bloom, the first trans person of color to feature in Sports Illustrated in 2021.

“No matter what your gender, s*xuality, or any of that stuff is, it’s all about what you make of life,” Petras said in a video about her cover shot. “It’s about what’s on the inside of you.”
