The Sundance Film Festival on Friday saw the world premiere of the new Doug Liman-directed documentary “Justice,” which examines the claims of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. In 2018, the documentary raised concerns regarding the breadth of the FBI investigation into the well-known case.
In October 2018, Kavanaugh was confirmed as the 114th judge of the US Supreme Court by a slim 50-48 vote in a roll call vote that came after an emotional discussion about sexual assault. He vehemently refuted Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations that he sexually assaulted her as a teenager. She predominantly appears in the opening seconds of “Justice.”
The highly-secretive documentary was produced. Additionally, it emphasized the accusations made by Deborah Ramirez, a fellow Yale student of Kavanaugh’s. Ramirez claimed in a 2018 New Yorker piece that Kavanaugh exposed his penis to her while they were hanging out with friends in 1983 when she was a freshman. Kavanaugh refuted these allegations.

Additionally, “Justice” had a taped tip from Max Stier, a fellow Yale classmate, to the authorities that reported a related occurrence that the FBI neglected to look into. But Stier denied the filmmaker’s invitation to comment on the documentary’s substance and was not personally interviewed for it.
While this was going on, a Yale friend of Ramirez who was included in the documentary revealed text conversations in which a mutual acquaintance acknowledged receiving communication from “Kavanaugh’s guys.”
What Liman hopes to happen when viewers see “Justice” was a question that was posed during a Q&A following the movie. I feel that the job ends with the film, and what happens after that is out of my control, he responded.
Standing next to Liman, his producer Amy Hardy expressed her disagreement. Hardy expressed her desire for anger and “a serious probe with subpoena powers” to result from it.
