Former President Trump launched a stream of angry social media remarks Tuesday about the investigations into his conduct, the day after his lawyers met with Justice Department (DOJ) officials.
Trump wrote multiple times on Truth Social, levying charges that he is being politically targeted and putting up inaccurate analogies between his own case and President Biden’s regarding handling private data.
“The Marxists and Fascists in the DOJ & FBI are going after me at a level and speed never seen before in our Country, and I did nothing wrong,” he wrote in one post. “Joe Biden kept (kept) thousands of documents, some illegally taken from skiffs while a Senator, a large portion of which was classified.”
He didn’t want to return them and still doesn’t. Nothing happens to him, with the same reasonable prosecutor who exonerated Mike Pence rightly. I have a different prosecutor, a Trump detractor!”
After dozens of sensitive documents were discovered at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort last summer, Special Counsel Jack Smith examines Trump’s handling of classified materials. Those records were found during an FBI raid after Trump refused to give them to the National Archives.
After records were discovered at his Wilmington, Del., home and an old Washington, D.C., office from his time as vice president, a separate special counsel is probing Biden’s handling of sensitive material. When Biden’s crew discovered the records, they notified federal officials and turned them over.
The Justice Department also exonerated former Vice President Mike Pence of any wrongdoing last week, following the discovery of a limited quantity of secret documents at his Indiana residence in January.
Trump claimed in numerous additional posts that the probes into his behavior amounted to “election interference” as he sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
“It all about ELECTION INTERFERENCE.” “They don’t want to compete with me,” he wrote. “I ran twice, and the second time I did much better, getting millions and millions more votes than the first, a record for a sitting President, and I am far ahead of Biden in the polls.” They are the Disinformation Party! They are rigging the 2024 election by deploying the DOJ and FBI against me.”

“They are also going after me as RETRIBUTION for the Republicans in Congress going after them,” Trump said in another post. “The difference is that they have committed major crimes, whereas I have committed none!”
According to various publications, Trump’s lawyers met with DOJ officials the day before his outburst to discuss the pending investigation against him.
Smith was there during the meeting. Smith is investigating Trump’s efforts to reject the 2020 election results and remain in office, including his role in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.

In addition to the special counsel inquiry, Trump is being investigated by a state prosecutor in Georgia for his team’s efforts to reverse the state’s 2020 election results.
In April, the Manhattan district attorney charged Trump with over 30 felony counts concerning a hush money conspiracy to conceal an alleged affair with a p*rn star during the 2016 campaign. Trump has refuted the charges.
Trump now leads the GOP primary field in most national polls, while surveys at the state level and in head-to-head contests with Biden have been mixed.
A Harvard CAPS-Harris survey released last month showed Trump leading Biden by 7 percentage points in a hypothetical conflict. A Quinnipiac University survey released late last month showed Biden ahead by 2 percentage points.
