Due to their failure to adhere to the smart-casual dress code, Russell Crowe and his girlfriend Britney Theriot were denied service at a Melbourne restaurant last week.
The Gladiator actor and his date headed to Mr. Miyagi in Windsor for dinner after playing tennis earlier in the day. Staff swiftly halted the couple at the entry point when they arrived in their athletic attire.
According to the establishment’s website, “work-gear, activewear, singlets and thongs are strictly not permitted in the venue”. Crowe’s manager Grant Vandenberg addressed in the incident in a statement to the Daily Mail.
“He (Russell) went there wearing a brand new Ralph Lauren polo having just played a game of tennis and was turned away,” he said.
Also to speak out was the restaurant owner Kristian Klein: “We treat everyone the same. It doesn’t matter who you are or if you are Russell Crowe. We’ve got a dress code that we push across every level.” “We are consistent with it and I don’t feel like it’s unreasonable,” he told the Herald Sun on Friday.

“But I know personally if I’m in my thongs (flip-flops) and my boardies (shorts), I’m not going to try and go to a nice restaurant, because I wouldn’t be dressed appropriately.”
The manager added that the staff member who denied the actor entry did not know who Crowe was, calling it “a very unfortunate situation for everyone”.
The restaurant went on to address the awkward moment via an Instagram post on Friday, sharing a plaque that reads: “Dress smart casual … unless you’re Russell Crowe, then wear whatevs.”
The caption added, “Dear Russell, during your last visit it seems we got off on the wrong foot. “After much reflection on what occurred, we have made a permanent change to our dress code. “We would love to see you again in the future, you’re always welcome at Mr. Miyagi.”
Years after the first meeting on the set of Broken City in 2013, Crowe started dating actor turned realtor Theriot in November 2020. Crowe previously wed Australian actress Danielle Spencer from 2003 to 2012 before beginning a relationship with Theriot. Charles, age 19, and Tennyson, age 16, are their two sons.
