Olympic gymnast Simone Biles is the most successful American gymnast of all time, with 32 medals to her credit (both Olympic and World Championship medals). Simone Biles Early Life
In Columbus, Ohio, Simone Biles was born on March 14, 1997. As a child, Simone and the three other siblings she shared a home with were continuously in and out of foster care. Biles grew raised in the Houston suburbs under the tutelage of her grandmother, who became more involved in her life around the year 2000. Because her mother is Belizean, Simone grew up in a Catholic environment with deep ties to her native country. She is still a citizen of Belize.
Even as a child, it was obvious that Simone’s destiny was to be a professional gymnast. For the rest of her secondary schooling, she was taken out of the classroom and homeschooled. So Simone was already competing at the top level in the Olympics before she had even started college.

When Biles was just eight years old, she began working with Aimee Boorman as a coach. She competed in the American Classic in Houston when she was 14 years old. She came in third place. At the 2012 Huntsville American Classic, she took first place. When she was a junior in high school, the United States Junior National Team selected her. Before competing in the City of Jesolo Trophy, she made her senior international debut at the American Cup and helped the U.S. team earn a gold medal.
It was after Simone’s disappointing showing at the US Classic in 2013 that Márta Károlyi decided to invite her to a private gymnastics camp and begin training with a sports psychologist. Afterward, Simone was selected for the World Championships team. Her second straight first-place result at the 2013 Artistic Gymnastics Championships was aided by yet another flawless performance.
