The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be released this month, and Samsung has set a date to release its next device. The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event will take place at the end of July, sooner than in previous years, with all indicators pointing to a new iteration of the flip-phone-style foldable.
Previous Galaxy Z Flip devices delivered a lot, including a tiny form in your pocket, a large screen when you open the flip phone, and a Flex mode that allows you to capture photos and hold video conversations hands-free.
However, as much as there is to enjoy about the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the current model has shortcomings, particularly regarding battery life and camera quality. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be Samsung’s chance to fix those concerns, especially as phones like the new Motorola Razr+ are now vying for the most excellent foldable phone title.
Samsung appears anxious to release this model, as seen by the continual stream of Galaxy Z Flip 5 speculations. According to rumors, Samsung is planning many modifications for this latest model, including a larger exterior display and a more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU to power the show.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Release Date And Price
Samsung said Galaxy Unpacked will occur on July 26 at 7 a.m. ET/4 a.m. PT. The event is being hosted in Seoul, South Korea, which according to Samsung executives has a strong market for foldable devices.
“Having Unpacked in Seoul is significant because it is a city that has emerged as an emerging epicenter of innovation and culture, as well as the foldable category,” said TM Roh, president of Samsung.
If there wasn’t enough evidence that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 would be released on July 26, consider Samsung’s event invitation. That looks like a Flip phone, and the words on the ad encourage us to “join the flip side.”
Chosun Ilbo, a Korean publication, correctly predicted the July 26 date for Unpacked and said in the same piece that the global launch date for Samsung’s new foldable phones will be August 11. That’s two weeks earlier than the Flip and Fold debuted last year.
We hope the Galaxy Z Flip 5 pricing will be similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 4: $999 / £999 / AU$1,449. Fortunately, Samsung will keep the Z Flip 5’s price stable.
One interesting side effect of the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s release could be that the Galaxy S23 Plus becomes cheaper in some areas, causing them to be sold at different prices.
It would be a rare move from a firm with such a bloated portfolio of overlapping phone specs and fees, but we’d gladly welcome a discount on the Galaxy S23 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Design, Display, And Colors
Several reports suggest the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will eventually get a larger external display. That feature was first rumored for the Z Flip 4, but the device arrived with the same 1.9-inch show. This would be a significant update, especially since the Motorola Razr+ has a very useful 3.6-inch screen on its cover.
The latest Winfuture graphic above depicts what the Flip 5 cover display would look like.
We now know what the redesigned phone might look like, thanks to several rumors from Ross Young and Ice Universe about a 3.4-inch cover display gracing the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Steve H. McFly, known as @OnLeaks, has created Galaxy Z Flip 5 mockups that show off the larger cover display.
According to Ross Young, Samsung will unveil a new hinge design this year to make the display crease less obvious. The new “waterdrop” display may allow a section of the inside screen to roll inside the phone, preventing wrinkles. Young also claimed that the phone would be reduced in weight.
The hinge could possibly provide the Z Flip 5 with its first IP58 classification, however, SnoopyTech reports this is unlikely. This is a shame because dust ingress is a severe issue for any phone, particularly foldable.
This is further supported by leaked Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover pictures, which reveal a far larger exterior screen than the Z Flip 4.
Take note of the notch in the cover display for the phone’s external cameras. This is consistent with SamMobile renders, which show a cover display that spans most of the Z Flip 5’s exterior top half while leaving a notch for the cameras.
According to Ross Young, the Z Flip 5 will be available in at least eight colors when it launches: blue, green, platinum, yellow, beige, gray, light green, and light pink.
Thanks to this leak, we now have another, ostensibly official look at the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s design. It demonstrates the new display and a handful of potential applications for it. A further leak shows the Z Flip 5 with a similar design and other gadgets that Samsung is expected to show off at Unpacked.
SnoopyTech, another leaker, also posted several official-looking renders for the Z Flip 5, which appear to confirm everything we’ve seen thus far. This includes a more prominent cover display and an otherwise identical design to the Z Flip 4.
While no specific speculations about the Z Flip 5’s primary display have surfaced, it’s safe to presume the inside panel will retain the same basic form as prior Z Flip devices.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 had a 6.7-inch AMOLED Full HD display with an adjustable refresh rate of 1-120Hz. The only significant enhancement would be a conversion to QHD resolution, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Cameras
We anticipate a substantial camera enhancement with the Galaxy Z Flip 5. That’s because the Z Flip 4’s cameras were marginally better than the Z Flip 3. The cameras weren’t bad, but there was a lot of opportunity for development.
We saw the Z Fold 4 offer improved camera parity with the S22 range last year, and we’d want to see the same with the Z Flip 5. After all, the Galaxy S23 (and S22 before it) boasts a 50MP primary sensor, which sounds far superior to the 12MP offering on the previous two Z Flips.
Unfortunately, early camera rumors aren’t looking encouraging. Yogesh Brar, a leaker, claims that the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip will include 12MP rear cameras for both the primary and ultrawide lenses.
These would be comparable to the megapixels provided by the Galaxy Z Flip 4. At the very least, Brar anticipates that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 sensor will be larger, allowing more light to be captured for better images.
Another report indicates that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will have a 50MP camera, ending speculation that the Z Flip 5’s camera resolution would be upgraded.
Nonetheless, a rumor from Korea suggests that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 camera performance should be comparable to that of the Galaxy S23 because of better software. According to another report, Samsung may use a larger 12MP sensor for the primary camera to catch light for better photos.
