Ruby’s conviction was eventually challenged, and he was to receive a new trial; however, he fell ill in jail and passed away on January 3, 1967, from a pulmonary embolism brought on by lung cancer.

Several critics have disputed these conclusions, who contend that Ruby collaborated with essential leaders in organized crime and participated in a larger conspiracy involving Kennedy’s murder.
