Anna Nicole Smith became famous after marrying J—Howard Marshall II in 1994. She was 26 years old while he was 89. Marshall’s third wife and the second local Texas dancer he’d had a romance with.
Following Marshall’s deαth in 1995 at the age of 90, the media circus that his third marriage created obscured much of his first 89 years of life, notably his intelligent business acumen and crucial role in supplying gasoline during WWII.
Marshall and Smith’s connection would generate unending headlines, intrigue, and multiple lengthy, drawn-out disputes over his fortune after his deαth.
Smith, a single mother who referred to Marshall as “Paw Paw,” insisted for a long time that she married him for the right reasons. “I’m aware that some people believe I married Howard for his money. But that’s not the case,” she explained. “I’m in love with him.”
The model and actress would later engage in a years-long legal struggle with one of Marshall’s sons over half of Marshall’s fortune following his deαth.
When Anna Nicole Smith Met Howard Marshall?
Marshall met Smith, born Vickie Lynn Hogan, in a topless bar in Houston in 1988, while he was still married to Bohannon and lavishing gifts on Walker.
Marshall allegedly went to Gigi’s, a Houston strip club where Smith was dancing at the time, three months after Walker’s deαth.
Smith agreed to go out to lunch with Marshall the next day after dancing for him, in exchange for $1,000. That day, she quit her dancing job and began getting cash and gifts from Marshall.
Marshall proposed to Smith numerous times following their first date in 1991. Smith didn’t say yes until she became a celebrity in her own right – as a Playboy Playmate, Guess model, and actor in films such as Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult and The Hudsucker Proxy.
Pat Walker, the White Dove Wedding Chapel owner where Marshall and Smith later married, told Texas Monthly that Smith said to her, “I’m not marrying him for his money.”
He has been pleading with me for four years to marry him. But I wanted to create a business and have my own money first.”
Howard Marshall Was Married Twice Before
Marshall had two previous spouses and a third fiancée before marrying Smith in 1995.
Marshall married Eleanor Pierce in 1931, and they had two sons, James Howard Marshall III, and E. Pierce Marshall. He and Eleanor separated in 1961, and the following year he married his second wife, Bettye Bohannon.

Marshall and Bohannon stayed married until she died 1991 from Alzheimer’s disease. Still, he had another lover beginning in 1982, when he began spending gifts on Houston dancer Jewell Dianne “Lady” Walker.
She also died in 1991 after a complication during a facelift, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Marshall and his son Pierce sued her estate after her deαth for millions of dollars in gifts Marshall had given her over the course of their decade-long relationship (estimated to be between $6 million and $10 million overall) and recouped much of the value.
Smith, for her part, had previously married Billy Smith as a teenager, who worked with her at Jim’s Krispy Fried Chicken and fathered her son Daniel.
