As it happens, getting Baldur’s Gate 3 up and going is perhaps the easiest part. Despite its good looks, it’s playable on a wide range of older CPUs and graphics cards, and aside from some stuttering (and a currently unappealing Vulkan option), it’s essentially devoid of technical flaws. And, if you have a newer, smarter Nvidia GeForce RTX GPU, DLSS can boost performance significantly.
All of my findings and benchmarks from the new build are listed below; I tried each graphics parameter individually to determine which ones are worth lowering if you want to smooth out your dice-assisted adventuring.
Baldur’s Gate 3 System Requirements and PC performance
BG3 does take up a lot of space on your SSD or hard drive – the real download is closer to 122GB than the 150GB listed in these system requirements, but it’s still a lot of space. Lower-end PCs, on the other hand, have a strong chance.
Most graphics cards launched in the last decade will meet the minimum 4GB VRAM need, and the recommended specs list focuses on GPUs and processors from previous generations; no RTX 4080 is required here.
“SSD required” is also a stretch, given that a slider in the graphics settings is dedicated to boosting texture loading performance on slow hard drives. However, HDDs will have substantially longer load times.
