Colombia and Venezuela are among the 16 migrants that arrived in Sacramento on Friday. They entered the United States through Texas.

According to California officials, they were carried to New Mexico and then flown by charter plane to California’s capital, where they were dropped off in front of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento.

People approached them outside a migrant facility in El Paso, Texas, offering them jobs and travel assistance, according to Eddie Carmona of PICO California, a faith-based organization that assists migrants. He claimed they had no idea they were being transferred to Sacramento and arrived with little items.

“While we continue to collect evidence, I want to say this very clearly: State-sanctioned kidnapping is not a public policy choice, it is immoral and disgusting,” Bonta said.
