In a violent shooting on Monday in the Four Corners area of New Mexico, four people including a teenage suspect were murd*red, and two police officers were injured.
Farmington police reported three “civilian victims” were slain, and a suspect was “confronted and ki!!ed on the scene.” According to Deputy Police Chief Baric Crum, the suspect was 18 and possessed various firearms.
“It’s just a devastating day,” Farmington Police Chief Steve Hebbe said in a video released Monday evening.
According to Hebbe, the 18-year-old shooter, shot at least once by police and died, appeared to fire at victims randomly. At least six residences and three cars were hit. The gunman utilized at least three firearms, including an AR-style rifle, according to Hebbe.
At 10:57 a.m., officers responded to 911 calls reporting shots fired. Monday found a “chaotic scene” as the shooter fired at individuals.
“We had four Farmington Police Department officers confront the subject,” Crum said. “They were able to stop his actions at that time.”
Six persons were injured, including two police officers, one of whom was a Farmington cop and the other a state police officer, according to police. The state officer remained hospitalized, while the Farmington officer was treated and discharged.
A motive was being investigated. Investigators will speak with family members and examine the evidence, according to Hebbe.
“It appears to be entirely random.” “At this point, we cannot identify any specific victims who were targeted,” Hebbe said. However, he emphasized that it was still extremely early.
The perpetrator is thought to have driven up to a quarter-mile through the area and discharged three guns.
Authorities were initially concerned about a second gunman, and schools were placed on lockdown — but Hebbe stated Monday night that leaders think there was never a second shooter. Police have asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact them.
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham thanked the police for a quick response.
“I am deeply upset by the tragic violence that unfolded today in Farmington. I am praying for the families of the victims, the wounded, and the entire community of Farmington following this horrific tragedy,” She stated in a statement.

Farmington Municipal Schools were locked down by police around 11:15 a.m., according to officials. By 1:05 p.m., the order had been lifted.
Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Explosives, and San Juan County Sheriff’s Office deputies were also dispatched.
Judith McIntosh, 77, claimed she was heading home from the grocery store with a friend on Monday afternoon when she noticed a woman lying on the pavement. She thought it was strange but kept driving. Three to five gunshots rang out moments later as she stood near a church near her home.
McIntosh said she noticed at least one person resting on the grass on the church grounds.
“We saw the first older lady in the street and thought she had been hit by a car,” McIntosh explained. “Then we went a little further, by the church, and heard gunshots.”
Then we noticed more individuals on the ground and thought, ‘Oh, my God. What exactly is going on? ‘What’s going on?’ People are being murdered.” She said, “I’m still very upset.”
McIntosh stated there was a flurry of police activity in the vicinity at the time, and she could not enter her home for several hours. Opening her eyes, she saw a gunshot piercing her bedroom window.
“There was a bullet hole in my bedroom window, through the curtains, into my living room, and over the top of my recliner.”
McIntosh claimed the bullet struck the wall of her living room. “If I had happened to be at home, I could have been shot,” she explained. Officials claimed investigators focused on Dustin Avenue, between Ute and Apache streets in Farmington.
The city has a slightly more than 46,000 population and is about 200 miles northwest of Santa Fe, the state capital.

The hamlet is also close to three crucial Native American reservations: the Navajo, the Ute Mountain Indians, and the Southern Utes. It is located near the famous Four Corners, where New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, and Arizona borders meet.
In a joint statement, Sens. Martin Heinrich, Ben Ray Luján, and Reps. Teresa Leger Fernández, Melanie Stansbury, and Gabe Vasquez congratulated first responders and committed to combat gun violence through federal legislation.
“We are devastated by today’s mass shooting in Farmington, New Mexico,” they wrote. “As we await further updates, we thank our state and local law enforcement officers who responded to the scene, as well as our health care providers who are treating those injured.”
Our thoughts are with the families of those who have died and those who have been hurt.”
Farmington Mayor Nate Duckett described the violence as a “horrible tragedy,” adding that the two injured officers received non-life-threatening injuries. He said that the police intervention saved lives.
“During this incomprehensible time of pain and loss, our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families,” Duckett said.
The mass shooting on Monday follows two others in the previous nine days. According to police, two people were ki!!ed and five others were injured in a shooting Saturday night in Yuma, Arizona.
Seven male victims were discovered with gunshot wounds. Two aged 19 and 20 were brought to Yuma Regional Medical Center and pronounced de@d. There were no suspects in custody. A week prior, a shooter ki!!ed eight people at a Dallas-area outlet mall.
Authorities claimed the 33-year-old shooter, a neo-Nazi sympathizer with an AR-15-style rifle, was ki!!ed by an officer who happened to be at the shopping mall in Allen.
A little kid and his parents, two elementary school-age sisters, a security guard working for his ambitions, and an engineer with a fresh master’s degree were among the victims.
