The consensus amongst fans is this: Netflix has quietly renewed Virgin River for a fourth season even before it launched the third season on July 9, 2021, even though Netflix does not divulge watching figures. After the third season, the fourth will be released on July 20, 2022, and the fifth season will be filmed in the summer.
Netflix has great aspirations for Virgin River’s long-term prospects, which isn’t exactly a surprise. The show is based on Robyn Carr’s (opens in new tab) Virgin River novel series, which includes 25 volumes. Furthermore, season three shot to the top of Netflix’s ratings almost immediately, attracting over 1.4 million viewers in its first week and becoming the most streamed show in the United States inside its first month (opens in new tab). Because of this high demand, Netflix has immediately approved more episodes for season four, which will include 12 episodes instead of the regular 10.

Netflix confirmed Virgin River season 4’s release date on May 20th: July 20, 2022. Netflix’s official synopsis for the upcoming season reads as follows: “Mel, despite not knowing if her kid is her late husband Mark’s or Jack’s, maintains a positive outlook. She’s been wanting to have children for a long time, and now she’s one step closer to her goal. While Jack is happy and supportive, he can’t shake the nagging feeling that he’s not the biological father “It’s written like that. (A love triangle?) “Isn’t Jack’s life enough?”
An attractive new doctor, eager to create a family of his own, is complicating things, according to the description. “It will take a long time for Hope to recover from her brain injury and the emotional toll it will take on both her and Doc. Virgin+river+season 4 Plot: What Could Happen?
Warning: this section contains major plot twists. The preacher was poisoned by Paige’s ex-friend to get him out of the way of a kidnapping plot, and Mel and Jack, who are dealing with the aftermath of Mel’s revelation that she’s pregnant—but they don’t know if the father is Mark or her late ex-husband, Jack. The investigation into Jack’s shooting has led to the arrest of Brady as a suspect, and a similar gun has been found in his vehicle. Charmaine and Todd have threatened to have an explosive custody battle over the twins, while Hope is in the hospital after a car accident left her with a brain injury.
Meanwhile, Lizzie has broken up with Ricky and returned to her slimy ex-boyfriend. Martin Henderson (Jack) told The Digital Fix, “Season four reveals and answers all the questions, but then introduces some more.” While there will be plenty of new stories in the upcoming season, this year’s episode set the stage for some existing ones: If Ricky joins the military, we’ll likely see him leave Virgin River (and Lizzie) behind. Annette O’Toole, who plays Hope, the mayor of the town, was mysteriously absent throughout the whole third season of the show. As a result of the COVID-19 filming restrictions, Hope was unable to join the rest of the cast in Vancouver for season three. But fear not, O’Toole and Hope will return for Virgin River’s fourth season (phew).
After season three, Hope will be able to walk away unscathed, according to Tenney’s statement to EW. “We are making progress. She has suffered serious brain damage, which we know about and are concerned about.” Additionally, if you can believe it, Hope and Muriel may become friends in season four. Season 4 of Virgin River will introduce two new characters, according to a Netflix announcement made at the end of October 2021. Season 5 and Season 6 of Virgin River will be available on Netflix?
The fifth and last season of Virgin River is unquestionably on the way. The script is currently being worked on, so we don’t have many details just yet. Alexandra Breckenridge disclosed during an Instagram live that production had been delayed from its initial start date of March 2022.

Although the start date was originally set for March, the actress said she was “hoping that maybe we’ll start in the summer” because of the rescheduled start date. Since I’m pretty much-done filming in the winter, it would be ideal if we could shoot in Vancouver over the summer instead of the winter.
So far, we don’t know much about the upcoming season 6. Performance on Netflix will be the deciding factor. The showrunner, Sue Tenney, suggested in an interview with Us Weekly that they “want to do as many seasons as we can” before the news. With so much ground to explore in future seasons, anything is possible.
