After nearly 19 years of marriage, radio personality Adam Carolla and his wife Lynette are divorcing.
Carolla, 56, broke the news on Friday at the top of his podcast, The Adam Carolla Show.
“We’re going to start the show with some sad personal news: Lynette and I are getting divorced,” he announced. “It’s not something I wanted to get or do; I’m a divorce product, and Lynette is a divorce product… Nobody chooses to get divorced.”
Carolla and Lynette married in September 2002 following a six-year relationship. Natalia and Santino “Sonny” Carolla, who turns 15 next month, was born later.
“We’ve been separated for a few months, and it’s hard,” Carolla remarked on his show. “The kids always come first, and they always have.”
“They’re doing well, some say too well,” he jokingly said. “I wanted a little devastation, but I did not get much devastation.”
The comedian explained some reasons for the breakup, adding that he and Lynette are “very different.”
“It’s been a difficult time,” he admitted. “We’ve been together for 25 years, and we’re very different people with very different philosophies.”
It’s not an incident; it’s not someone cheating, it’s not chronic gambling or COVID, it’s really just two people who were just that different and had completely different processes and orientations to life and couldn’t meet anywhere in the middle.”
“It’s difficult, it’s a strange thing,” he continued. Everyone divorces — or many people divorce… yet that was never in the cards for me. I think that wasn’t an option for me. Whatever isn’t functioning, we’ll figure out how to make it work. But, in the end, if you can’t make things work, it’s usually for the best, so I’m in a good position.”

Carolla stated that his relationship with Lynette is “okay” and that they have worked out a “nesting” routine for their children, which entails the children remaining in their home while the two parents rotate in and out.
“We’re doing nesting now, so you stay home and the kids don’t leave the house,” he added. “It’s much better when my parents divorced, my father simply moved out and crashed on the couch at my grandparents’ house.”

Carolla, who co-hosted The Man Show with Jimmy Kimmel in the early 2000s, noted that he was first “embarrassed” to announce his divorce publicly.
“My number one feeling is sort of shame, embarrassment,” he admitted. “I think divorce feels like a failure.”
“Ultimately, it’s better, my life’s better, and I’m fine with it,” Carolla said before returning to his show. “It’s not a logical thought; it’s more like, I don’t want this thing to happen, but I’ll be better off if it does, so I’m sort of philosophical.”
